Its that time of year where we set silly goals and objectives for ourselves over the coming year. Most people chose to lose weight or get fitter. I lost 18kg last year and started running – promptly put 3kg back on over the Christmas & New Year period mind you (neither were actually New Year resolutions). But these are the resolutions of ordinary mortals. We (assuming you’re reading this blog because you have an interest in wargaming) of course have much more far fetched and unobtainable objectives to set – like completely painting an army, or painting all our unpainted models, etc etc. So what am I planning to fail to achieve this year?

Guild Ball Prototype Range Rulers
I decided I wanted to get some acrylic range rulers made for the game Guild Ball. My goal (haha i’m sooo witty 😉 ) was to make a set of useful measure guides fitting the most options into a single ruler as possible. So I set about designing a stick that could measure/guide the placement of models in a number of different situations. Sure they are a number of different manufacturers out there making measuring sticks (google image search). They all share a common design in that they a stick of a given lenght – no surprises there. I have a set of these for that. Other designs are such that you can place the template in contact with the ball or model’s base and then place the base at the opposite end of the template to achieve a given distance. Like the measuring sticks for X-Wing, measuring front of the base to back of the base. The issue with that is that you need a single ruler for each increment of distance you want.
So what have I done differently?
Infinity uses templates to determine various effects on models or defining particular areas of the table. Just like many table top wargames. There are a number of manufacturers out there that produce templates for Infinity, both official partners to Corvus Belli and not those not endorsed by CB. Here is a few retailers, in no particular order:
Corvus Belli themselves supplies templates to print free. You can print out templates and markers from the Downloads section of the Infinity website. Also if you bought one of the large starter sets such as Operation Icestorm you’ll have some card stock templates. While the US Ariadna Army Pack came with a card circular template and both sizes of teardrop templates. Card is perfectly fine, but it’s more useful to have a more durable set of templates. So I thought I would design my own set of templates and get them laser cut by Cog ‘O’ Two.
